Jenni Button Cavendish Relaunch

A few weeks ago I got hired to "waft" (no, really) around a party changing my outfit every hour (again, really). The party was the relauch of Jenni Button's Cavendish store and was very fittingly an ultra-chic event. A photo of me at the event (pausing from 'wafting') appears up on popyacollar.co.za's review of the evening.

Humpday Hottie: Henry Cavill

Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor. He has appeared in the films The Count of Monte Cristo and Stardust, and played the role of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, on the Showtime series The Tudors, from 2007 until 2010. He has been cast as Superman in the 2013 film Man of Steel.

The Blondes recently saw him in Immortals which wasn't bad, but wasn't quite Troy or 300. It did have a topless Henry though... so we're not complaining much.

Entertainment Weekly named him 'The Most Dashing Duke' - and he can certainly make one of us his Duchess anytime.

He was also named by Empire Magazine as the 'Unluckiest Man in Hollywood' for so many near-misses on some big roles. It's ok, gave him time to do hot Dunhill adverts really ;)

Happy Humpday xoxo

Tuesday Tunes: Missy Higgins - They Weren't There

Another win for the random iPod shuffle!

I was all set to start a Christmas themed version of Tuesday Tunes, but then this little gem started playing.

Melissa "Missy" Morrison Higgins (born 19 August 1983) is an Australian (yes I know it's hard to believe, but every now and again something awesome is actually spawned from that island) pop singer-songwriter, musician and actor. Her No. 1 albums in Australia are The Sound of White (2004) and On a Clear Night (2007), and her Top Ten singles are "Scar", "The Special Two", "Steer" and "Where I Stood" (Wikipedia FTW).

The Tuesday Tune for today is "They Weren't There" off the album The Sound of White. It wasn't a hit single, but is awesome.

You breathed infinity into my world
And time was lost up in a cloud and in a whirl.
We dug a hole in the cool grey earth and lay there for the night.
Then you said, "wait for me we'll fly the wind,
We'll grow old and you'll be stronger without him" but oh,
Now my world is at your feet. I was lost and I was found,
But I was alive and now I've drowned.
So now I will be waiting for the world to hear my song
So they can tell me I was wrong...

But they weren't there beneath your stare,
And they weren't stripped 'till they were bare of
Any bindings from the world outside that room.
And they weren't taken by the hand
And led through fields of naked land
Where any pre-conceived ideas were blown away...
So I couldn't say "no".

You sighed and I was lost in you, weeks could've past for all I knew.
You were there blanket of the over-world and so I couldn't say,
I wouldn't say "no". But they all said, "you're too young to even know,
Just don't let it grow and you'll be stronger without him"
But oh, now, my world is at your feet. I was lost and I was found,
But I was alive and now I've drowned.
So now I will be waiting for the world to hear my song
So they can tell me I was wrong...

But they weren't there beneath your stare,
And they weren't stripped 'till they were bare
Of any bindings from the world outside that room.
And they weren't taken by the hand and led through fields
Of naked land where any pre-conceived ideas were blown away...

But they weren't there beneath your stare,
And they weren't stripped 'till they were bare
Of any bindings from the world outside that room.
And they weren't taken by the hand and led through fields
Of naked land where any pre-conceived ideas were blown away...
So I couldn't say "no".

"But there is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it's better to lose some of the battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you're fighting for." - Paulo Coelho

Marshall's Christmas Advert

I'm skipping around in the back of this... with hat and a poncho on...

Between the Stripes

It's no hidden secret that I am quite the Ikey Tigers fan.

The team is busy with pre-season training before kickoff of Varsity Cup 2012 where they will for the first time be defending the title! Here's a cute lil video of the boys in action...

Elle: Did you see him? He's probably still scratching his head.
Paulette: Yeah, which must be a nice vacation for his balls.

Humpday Hotties: Hanson

Back in the D, The Ceo and I thought that Hanson were pretty awesome, we spent our days Mmmbopping along to their tunes - the little one was adorable ok.

Then:

Seems the boys have grown up much like Mizz Honey, with a love for beer. So much so that they are launching their own Indian Pale Ale beer to be launched next year. But that's not all, and definitely not the best bit: the name for such a drink, why MMMhop. I. Kidd. You. Not.

These days the boys (guys/men??) are all married with kids. Seriously. The oldest Isaac is 31 and has 2 sons, middle Hanson is 28 with 4 kids, and the cute baby one is 26 married with 2 children. Maybe they should just extend the band and go for a more Von Trapp Family singers kinda vibe?

And just in case you've forgotten the awesomeness of MMMbop, here's the official music video from 1997:

Loading Bay

My Sandton Blonde was down in the Cape recently visiting her boyperson (because she has finally realised that Cape Town boys are soooo much better). We went for a quick little lunch catch up sesh, ok not THAT quick but there was considerable less drama to exchange now that both of us suddenly seem to have less complicated lovelives - possibly the reason for global warming. Which is funny. Because we met as finalists in Miss Earth SA.

Decided to try out Loading Bay in De Waterkant; neither of us had been there before and I saw a lil review of it somewhere that piqued my interest. Awesome, chilled Mother City vibe! Our waiter was super cool and friendly; he gets bonus points for suggesting I add avocado onto my sandwich when I asked for it without the bacon - great move that was. I ordered the Chicken Camembert sandwich on Sour Dough, delicious. All the sandwiches can be ordered on 66% Rye, Sour Dough or Ciabatta. Mine consisted of free range chicken, avo (replacing the usual crispy bacon), camembert, figs, pinenuts, rocket & basil mayo. To drink I had an iced coffee, which was a little small for my liking (it was hot ok, I was thirsty) but luckily the barista boy was even hotter than the weather and I probably wouldn't have complained if it was the size of an expresso cup :P

I hear there's a vibe on 'Burger Thursdays' where booking is advised, and they also have wines and beers - &Union obviously :P

All women have a slutty friend, and if you can't think of who it is, then it's you

Tuesday Tunes: Ashtray Electric - Bittersweet Manipulator

Ok fine, kinda biased on this one... but they really are an awesome Cape Town band! And I had so much fun being a part of their music video (here)

If you want to catch them live, check out their Facebook Fan Page otherwise watch MK for the video!!

Caveau Pub Review

Pub Review Number 3 for rugby365.com, this time at Caveau in Heritage Square. Lovely venue, definitely date-worthy potential - I even got bubbly, sushi and a divine latte (heaven!)

Elle: And last week I saw Cameron Diaz at Fred Segal, and I talked her out of buying this truly heinous angora sweater. Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.

Knees - Tyler Knott Gregson

I would love to say
that you
make me
weak in the knees
but
to be quite upfront
and completely
truthful
you
make my body
forget
it has knees
at all.

Tuesday Tunes: Paperweight - Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk

My iPod was on shuffle one Sunday afternoon and this song happened to come on; don't think I'd paid it the attention it deserves before. It's been featured on two movie soundtracks that I know of, The Last Kiss (this video is from a live performance at The Last Kiss premiere at the Toronto Film Festival) and more recently on the soundtrack of Dear John.

Play me a song
Your newest one
Please leave your taste on my tongue
Paperweight on my back
Cover me like a blanket
Mess up my bed with me
Kick off the covers
I'm waiting
Every word you say I think I should write down
Don't want to forget come daylight

Elle's Mother: Honey, you were First Runner-Up at the "Miss Hawaiian Tropics" contest. Why are you going to throw that all away?
Elle: Going to Harvard is the only way I'm going to get the love of my life back.
Elle's Father: Oh, sweetheart, you don't need law school. Law school is for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things.

Mizz Honey reporting for duty!

So, first full week of holidays for some of the MCB’s!

Princess Kiki, The CEO and I (Mizz Honey) have recovered from the burns of the scorching African sun! So let round two of the beach commence! I've actually found myself at the beach 3 out of the last 5 days. Life is tough when you live in this city!

Dr Lem is finally on her way home from Gotham City (aka Joburg). Princess Kiki has deserted the Mother City for Gotham City – we are hoping she will return in one piece. Otherwise we’ll be auctioning off her place in our cool little club!!

Well December is approaching quite swiftly I’ve decided to take some time away from the hustle and the bustle of the city and head up to the east coast, Wilderness to be precise! This is a must see for any traveler! Just to get y’all dreaming......

Hope you all have a good weekend!

I know I definitely will!!

Humpday Hotties: The Salvatore Brothers

Since Vampire Diaries is having a little mid-season hiatus, we wouldn't want you suffering too badly from withdrawal symptoms... so here's some humpday hottie double trouble.

Paul Wesley ( Wasilewski) was born July 23, 1982 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Polish parents and grew up in Marlboro Township, New Jersey. In addition to English, he also knows Polish, having spent four months every year in Poland until the age of 16. Wesley is currently starring as vampire Stefan Salvatore in The Vampire DiariesHe has been offered the role of Paris in a 2012 film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, scheduled to shoot in September. He enjoys playing ice hockey and snowboarding. Wesley has also expressed an interest in directing and writing. Wesley married long term girlfriend and Pretty Little Liars star Torrey DeVitto in April 2011

Ian Somerhalder born December 8, 1978 and raised in Covington, Louisiana. He plays Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries. After months of speculation, it was officially confirmed in September 2011 that he is dating his 'Vampire Diaries' co-star Nina Dobrev.

Tuesday Tunes: Birdy 'Skinny Love'

A few months ago I was printing piano sheet music, including what I thought was Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love'. It was not.

A clue probably was that it said "Birdy" on it... but that didn't mean anything to me; yet.

And then I came across this beautiful cover of my favourite Bon Iver tune, by such a sweet little angel voice. And now I shall probably go sit at my piano and pretend that I can do this cover as well as she... which is very doubtful, so for your safety of sanity, here is Birdy's version (and not Kiki's) of 'Skinny Love'

Marcel the Shell

I'm not really sure what Chowgaps does with his life that he has time to find such gems on the tube of you, but he does.... enjoy!

Elle: I just don't think that Brooke could've done this. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't.

Behind The Scenes

I recently shot a music video for crazy awesome local band Ashtray Electric. Produced by Motion City Films and directed by the super cool Helen Raine it was the first time I got to work with a green screen; so pretty much I got to spend the day being Alice in (my pretend) Wonderland - twas fantastico, I would not mind staying there :P

Here's a little sneaky Behind The Scenes video, can't wait for the official release of Bittersweet Manipulator!

Because we forgot to wear sunscreen

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL MUSIC VIDEO
Great Music video from the nineties!
The lyrics are taken from a famous essay — written in 1997 by Mary Schmich, a columnist with the Chicago Tribune — which gives some amazing advice for life. http://tinyurl.com/schmich-sunscreen
This is the original tune, and video as seen on MTV made by Baz Luhrmann the film director. Another exists - a Spanish karaoke version.

Lesson in the Sand

What a glorious sunny day in the Mother City, and a splendid one spent on the beach. Things we learnt whilst chilling on Camps Bay:

1. Without Smac (who is in Jhb) we fail at the sunscreen thing
2. Red is a hot look for stilettos, lipstick and little dresses - not on the back of your legs
3. Sinnfull is, ironically, heaven in a tub
4. Lollies only have one flavour: granadiiiiilllllaaaa
5. We live in the most gorgeous city in the world...

...and since Mizz Honey is leaving soon for Londontown (and all that entails, brrr) we shall be doing all sorts of cool touristy things for the next six weeks. So metamorphosing from beached whale to lobster on Camps Bay, tick! Next up, think we'll hop on Sight-seeing bus or do the cable car at sunset.

Life is SO hard when you're a mothercity blonde tomato

Humpday Hottie: Child Star Watch

I know you remember this one, the cute kid from Jerry Maguire and Stuart Little. Very noo-noo, yes.

But Jerry Maguire was in 1996, and Stuart Little in 1999. The Blondes were all in primary school then.

And Shock! Horror! Jonathan Lipnicki is all grown up (kinda). The kid is now 21, and recently some photos of him surfaced causing all sorts of hoo-haa.

 Or colour if you prefer:
And just in case you weren't buying it being the same kid - he still has that goofy smile

Tuesday Tunes: Lana Del Rey 'Video Games'

I am currently infatuated with this song.
So much love for it; it is on constant replay on my iPod. Borderline worrisome really - except that it's so worth it. If your life is feeling insignificant and unfulfilled it's probably because you haven't been made privy to the glory of this tune.

I say you the bestest
Lean in for a big kiss
Put his favourite perfume on...

...He holds me in his big arms
Drunk and I am seeing stars
This is all I think of

Legally Blonde Quotes

Really now, what kind of Blondes would we be without a little flick of the golden hair to the best blonde movie ever!

Every Monday there shall be a glorious Blonde quote, and for the next little while they shall be some of the 'highlights' (see what I did there) from Legally Blonde.

Elle: And last week I saw Cameron Diaz at Fred Segal, and I talked her out of buying this truly heinous angora sweater. Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing. - Muhammad Ali
