Things About India
THINGS I LOVE ABOUT INDIA
THE FOOD. Which has surprised me a bit as I've never been one to venture much into the land of spicy. But I've found most of the food here is flavourful without being ridiculously hot (although there are super spicy dishes I stay away from :P ). Also, no one eats cows (remember they're holy here) and neither pork. Win for Kiki! So loving the chicken and veg options.
PINK VODKA. It's called Pinkies. It's vodka. And it's pink. And for some reason this is very exciting. A whole new spin on pink lemonade.
SUNSHINE. I left Cape Town at the end of summer to come to India in the beginning of summer. Summer Summer for the win! I love being warm - and the heat in India is not ridiculous all the time. The humidity in certain cities can be a bit much, but I'm super stoked to be based in Bangalore where the weather is just lovely.
THE EXCHANGE RATE. For once, living in the land of rand has not made me poor in a foreign country! I can only imagine what it must be like to travel here on the pound *good grief*
THE SHOPPING. Partially related to the above; I have bought new luggage to take home with me as I now have far more stuff with me than when I started - it has increased exponentially since visiting Mumbai and I can only imagine the result Delhi next week shall yield. I may just sit in my room with the heater on when I return to wintery Cape Town, wearing my new summer clothes (perhaps all at once will be warm enough?) and blinging out with all the sparkly things (magpie me). I also bought 4 handbags; in one day. But no shoes. (Except slops, which according to Glitter&Garbage don't count). Perhaps in India, I've replaced my shoe-buying problem with a handbag one? Wait, not problem, TALENT.
THINGS NOT IN THAT LIST
BINS. I like throwing stuff away ok. I'm not a neat freak (ask any of the blondes!) but it's a new stab to my green heart every time I see someone just chuck something on the ground.
AIRPORT AIRCON. Why must you make it feel like a ski slope inside your airport?!
STREET ANIMALS. There are lots of dogs and cats around, sleeping on pavements. One can sometimes hear them crying at night :(
HARD TO BE GREEN. I'm going through so many plastic bottles, I've stopped counting - there aren't even glass options. It's hard enough to find a proper bin, let alone separate one's rubbish and the aircon is on a lot.
TOILET SITUATION. Our hotels are nice, but public areas (and even the airport in Kolkata) have these awkward long-drop situations, where one stands. I've basically learned to pee like a boy :P Also, they're not big on toilet paper here. Lots of cultures go the bidet route - but then surely you're just wet with water and that's still awkward (although, I guess hidden under saris). Hey, all part of the experience :)

DRINKING WATER FROM MY TAP. Or you know, probably a river outside without getting ill. Think I'm just going to have fun filling up my pretty glass bottles with yummy Cape Town water.
A BUBBLE BATH. I shall be having the world's most amazing bubble bath when I return. With half a bottle worth of bubbles, and candles all around, and some good wine. On that note...
WESTERN CAPE WINES. My goodness are we blessed in Cape Town! I didn't quite realise I was such a wine snob until being in a place not surrounded by world-renowned vineyards. There are so many choices of great wine in SA, and they're so reasonable. I have found some of our (not so amazing but drinkable) exports over here though: A bit of JC le Roux Sparkling (under or around R50 in SA) for R350 and Two Oceans Sauvignon Blanc (about R30 in SA) for R250... point made.
MY BLONDES! Although Mizz Honey is in a land far, far away... at least Dr Lem shall be back in the Mother City for a little bit next month and I'm stoked for the blondiferous reunion that shall occur.

Tuesday Tune: Hellogoodbye - Here In Your Arms
A little one hit wonder for today's Tuesday Tune :) This song was released in 2006 and certified platinum in the USA. It did well on the charts and inspired lots of cover versions (that's when you know!). The music video is cute: Set in Camp Holadios, a fictional summer camp (Hellogoodbye in Spanish, oooooh).
